Yes, I'd Like to Report a Rumor

Friday the 13th is officially over. My week began on Wednesday and three days later it feels more like 8 days. I should be in bed right now, but oh well. I've got to work three more.

This week began a little strange. For the first time, I did a story, about rumors. To see the story, go here

I've only been in this business for six years, but I've never seen a story like that. For more than a month our phone at the office has almost rung off the hook. Everyone wants to call about this story. I'm glad the Sheriff decided to finally release a statement on this. I think if he hadn't, it would have just grown and grown.

It reminds me of the show Hee Haw. They used to sing the song that had the line, "You won't hear one of us repeating gossip. So you'd better be sure and listen close the first time."

I'm not sure why, but people who have never called about anything else, called about this. People who probably wouldn't call to tell you that an alien spacecraft just landed on the rhododendrons out front, called. I guess what I find so strange about this, is that it was a rumor. There were no facts. No witnesses. What was it that people wanted us to do about this? Some of the callers got down right mad when we said we weren't going to report the alleged incident.

The rumors might be true. The rumors might be false. The rumors might be a mix. But the bottom line, it's all rumor. NewsChannel 19 and this reporter, don't report rumors.
